Research Interests: 

Viruses can be powerful drivers of adaptive selection, and the appearance of a novel pathogen can leave an impact on the genome of the population that experiences the outbreak. To that end, I am interested in looking at the regulatory regions of the genome and how novel pathogens influence their evolution. I am looking at the genomes of Myotis bats for signals of adaptive selection stemming from ancient epidemics, in the regulatory regions surrounding known virus-interacting proteins (VIPs).
